2nd term blog By:Diyar Wisam

Hello welcome to my blog today I will be talking about what I did in the 2nd term of AEP with miss Disa it will be short.

When I started my 2nd term I had to do warm up games before I start the lesson just like as usual, and I finished my past exercises and works. So when I finished my past exercise that I haven't finished because of the 1st final term break. So I finished my work and it was only 1 period. So on the 2nd day of 2nd term in AEP with miss Disa I got a warm up game and it took a whole 1 period and the warm up game that weve played me and Miss Disa was '' Squardle''. So we finished half of it, and then I got into my 2nd first term exercise not gonna lie but you can say 50/50 or you can say it's OK but, I' m not done with my exercise so I'll be finishing it by next week or on the 1st period of AEP on Monday.

Blog 1.6- BREAKKKKK!!- Naboni, Grade10

Firstly, I apologize for the delay in my post. The overwhelming workload of the final exams had me convinced that there were only five blogs to do, and I completely overlooked the fact that there was one more to go.

Now let's dive into what happened on the last week before finals. Wow, can you believe it? We are already done and dusted with finals! Time really does fly when you're having fun, or in this case, loaded with studies. Finally, it's over and now we can enjoy a long-term break. Hooray!

Monday morning was off to an exhilarating start as we entered our beloved AEP room. We immediately noticed that the SQUARDLE webpage was open on the smartphone, and we knew that we were in for a thrilling challenge. Our task was to find 73 words, and though it seemed daunting, we were up for the challenge. 15 of the words were already filled in, making the task somehow easier. With excitement and determination, we set out to find the remaining 58 words.

Next, we did vocals after so many days. We read an article on DOGONews that was titled "Adidas "Super Shoes" Help Tigist Assefa Shatter Women's Marathon World Record". It was the same as before. We each read one sentence and after reading we went around the room and stated a fact that was mentioned in the article. The article discusses how Adidas "Super Shoes" played a significant role in Tigist Assefa's world record-breaking women's marathon performance. The facinating thing about it is the price of the shoe. It's worth $500.

The next day consisted of only two periods. We started with Sqardle again, but this time we had to fill in only 22 words. Completing the task was relatively easy and took us less time. Afterward, we started working on our vocabulary in the same way as last time. Each of us was assigned some words that we had to find the meaning of using a dictionary. Later on, we took a quiz on the vocabulary webpage where we had to answer for the word that was assigned to us.

These vocabulary lessons have been incredibly helpful to me in many ways. In our English syllabus, we had to do narrative writing, and I found myself using a lot of the words I learned in these lessons during my exam. Moreover, I have noticed that some of these words have started to appear randomly in my everyday life. It's amazing how once you learn a new word, it seems to pop up everywhere.

Finally, we were tasked with writing another essay. This time, we had to write about the number of hours that young people in Chester spent engaging in different activities weekly between 2002 and 2007. When I first saw the graph, I was intimidated by the sheer number of bars present on it. My mind immediately convinced me that I would not be able to jot down anything coherent. At the end of the class, I managed to write down some of the most noticeable trends. Honestly, that was the toughest essay writing I have ever done. But phew, I ended up getting a 90% at last on the seatwork.

The rest of the classes before the finals just consisted of us playing contexto, unscrambling a scrambled essay, and our vocab quiz as well.  In our last class of AEP, we took our finals. We were informed that there would be three essays in total - two of them would be from the ones we practiced before, and one would be new. We just had to write one out of the two old essays. I was happy to see my favorite essay among them, which was about aquatic species. The new essay was not difficult to comprehend, as it was about comparing the drinks sold in two different cafes. We were given two periods to complete the two essays, so I was quite relaxed throughout.

That was all covered up of all the tasks we did before term 1 finished. The finals are over! However, the thought of my upcoming results is constantly on my mind and it's starting to make me anxious. Gotta enjoy the long break though! Goodbye tilll Term 2!

Blog 1.3 - “little weeny quizzy” - Huda G11

 3rd blog of the month!!!

These blogs are going out much faster than it did last year, it’s quite unfamiliar and also sometimes very easy to forget ehehe

But anyways, in our last lesson we continued with our game of diffle, the guess we’re sticking to one game these days as we would have usually changed games every lesson but I don’t mind. Diffle is quite fun and we managed to do it in a few guesses :D

We then moved on to reviewing on some words from last lesson that we defined before doing our very first quiz of the year. I thought that I would be fine and was slightly confident with the quiz…I was wrong T-T

Maybe I might earn 1 point with the word that I give out? Honestly I’m not quite sure as the moment I said the word, I somehow forgot the definition myself…🤦‍♀️ Getting back our books today so hopefully I get to see at least 5 right answers from the quiz eheheh

Ended off the class with a seat work so our lesson was very chill, for most of it. I’m starting to really like this topic as I feel that it will most definitely help me with my vocabulary throughout all my lesson. Especially, how most of the words we have learnt these past few weeks have been related to business which will aid me when writing texts for my ABM lessons.

Not sure when our next blogs will be coming out but I had fun writing this and hope to be writing more in the next few weeks.

Buhbyeee!

AEP Blog, The Threequel

22nd August 2023

Third blog incoming! These blogs have really racked my brain on the creative side when it comes to intros, haha. But anyway, on with the usual description of last week's lesson:

It's a little hazy to me, but one thing I do remember is having our quiz. Miss went around the class and gave each of us a turn to pick one of the three words we chose from the vocabulary list we were learning. We had to define and put that word into context, and despite how simple that task was, I barely knew or used any of the words before they were introduced so it was pretty difficult for me.

This was probably not the threequel you were hoping for (apologies if you were) because it, unfortunately, ends here. There isn't really anything else I remember about the last lesson so I'm not able to write as much. Thanks for reading though! :D

PS: Enjoy the usual cowboy kitty! :>

Blog 1.3 - 2nd Ring (Or is "2nd Circle" better??)

 THIRD BLOG RAAAHHHHHHHHHH

okay let's get this over with.

What did we do this week? Or, "day" I suppose, 'cause we only have one day for AEP nowadays.

Today was pretty simple all things considered. We mostly just did a bunch of seatwork to pass the time.

Of course, we first started with Diffle and it was finished quite fast (Miss complained but we're just too smart hehehehehe). Soon after, Miss had us write down three of our favorite words from last week's vocab activity. Both from the collocations and the ones we discussed in Miro. We then had a mini quiz where each of us picked one of our three words and said them to the class before writing them down on our notebooks and giving an example sentence.

It basically went like:

Adi: "Facilitate."

Everyone else: *writes down the word and sentence*

Adi: "Wait, what's facilitate again?"

I ended up looking through my notebook for the definition of that one :v

And then after the break, we had another seatwork.

Similar to the collocations one, we had to match up words to its following phrase. The last one was business-themed while this one was more... political? It was all about elections and voting and the constitution. It got me and Alisa thinking about Hamilton for real.

I finished that one pretty quickly and submitted my cutie patootie notebook with the cutie patootie stickers (I will be flexing them all day every day)

Anyways, anything I want to improve? Maybe learn to memorize the vocab better. I'll get into the habit of actually knowing the words and internalizing the definitions lol

That's all for now.

Thank you for reading!

Blog 1.2 | Alisa Tee | Grade 11

 An Unoriginal Title: Second Blog

15th August 2023

Second blog of term 1! It's a little odd to be writing a blog with such a short interval from the first one, haha. But I'll enjoy writing the weekly AEP reflections nonetheless. Since there isn't really much for me to say (and I've kind of forgotten what happened last lesson), expect this blog to be very short.

Anyway, I'll just start with a vague recap of what we did in our last lesson! We began with (of course) the usual morning icebreaker. This time it was Diffle -- which is basically Wordle except the word isn't limited to just five letters. After that, I believe we worked in our groups to finish up our vocabulary activity. Miss brought out a (the) wheel (of doom) with our vocabulary words on it and whichever word it landed on we had to define and put in context. I didn't get to speak much since I was in a group of three and I didn't really volunteer to speak (sorry guys! -~-''). It was a little nerve-racking to watch the wheel spin, but I guess it counted as good practice since I got to learn a few new words. After that, we were given a list of business terms that were separated into two -- which were mismatched. Our activity was, you guessed it, to rematch them back. Other than that, I don't think I can recall the class doing anything else after that (excluding Padlet obviously).

Unfortunately, I can't say I'm looking forward to our vocabulary quiz on the 16th of August since a lot of the words we covered are pretty new to me. But I'm hoping to learn what I don't know during the process. All in all, nervous about the vocab quiz, but still excited to learn new words. Thanks for taking the time to read this! :]

PS: Have a hungry cat in a cowboy hat while you're at it. ^^

Blog 1.2 - "Vocabulary is not my forte T-T" - Huda G11

 2nd blog of the year!

The days feel so much longer now that I'm in senior high. Everything feels so rushed for me and though I am able to keep up with my assignments, it just never felt that same as how it did last year. To make things simple...i'm just tired. T-T

In our last AEP class we started off with a familiar game called 'diffle' but this was only for warm up. We actually did it quite fast ahahah! We then moved on to organising and finishing off our miro boards filled with new words, well, new as in the word in a different context, that we had to find the meanings of and it in a 'sentence sandwich' to demonstrate how it's commonly used. Most of our words were related to the business lexical field.

To test ourselves, Ms Disa gave us a few minutes to look back on our words and try our best to memorise them and be able to explain its meaning and how it's used in sentences. To be truly honest,  I was panicking so much as memorising stuff is not really to my liking so I really needed more than just a few minutes. Thankfully, I had Ayesha and Alisa with me so I could somehow rely on them to explain the words that I struggled on explaining or understanding. Thank you girls hehehe <333

To end the class, we were given different words to pair up in order to form a collocation. It was extremely difficult for me as all the words seemed to go so well with each other. With many helps and hints from my classmates around me, I was able to complete the collocations though I am still not so confident with my answers as I may be getting one or two wrong. The definitions were quite a pain to write as some of them were long but I think it's good as I can always look back on the words and be able to understand a few and possibly use them in my writing as I am in the strand of ABM :D

My blog may be quite short but I truly hope that it was a good catch-up on what's been happening lately in my life :D

See you in the next one! <3

Fahad's Amazing blog#2

Hi, it's me again and I hope ur doing well. In the 3rd week of aep, we managed to do quite a lot of stuff such as our usual routine of playing diffle every morning. To be honest, diffle has been quite challenging for me because the answer can be more than 5 words, which can get really confusing when you have letters all over the place, nonetheless, it's still a fun activity for your brain since it pushes the limits of your brain and tells it to think outside the box. to mention, we only have 2 periods of aep In 1 week so our time is usually limited and the numbers of activities which can be done is not a lot. After we had done the word game diffle, miss made us put words in  a spin of the wheel, the words came from the assignment she gave us in which we had to put the missing word in a blank, miss had assigned 5 sentences per group, I had gotten paired with my friend hakim, if the word you did was selected on the spin of the wheel, you had to define what it meant. After doing all those activities, we had around 20-25 minutes left so which then miss decided to give an activity in which we had words on the left side, and words on the right side, we had to match those words and after matching the words, we had to find the meaning of the words.Since we had run out of time, miss gave this as a homework.

Thank you for reading my blog.See ya!

Blog 1.2 - 1st Ring

Hi hii and welcome to another blog!!

I woke up late this morning (oopsie) so I had to do my makeup in a Starbucks bathroom, but besides that I had a pretty smooth-sailing morning. So what did we do on the second week? Firstly, we did another game for warmup of coursee! We played the same game as last time, "Diffle". It was fun and compared to last time, we got the word relatively quickly.

Soon after, Miss Disa had us fix up our little Miro board of all the vocabulary we learned last week. I was mostly done with it but I stayed to edit a few of the sentences and whatnot so that it'll be neater and easier to read. Right after we were done finishing up the board, Miss Disa has us do a little vocab quiz!

In summary, she put all the words we learned in Miro into the wheel of death, and what ever word pops up, the group that handled that word will have to explain the definition and how that word is used in context. It was pretty easy for me since I memorized the definitions for my words already. It was difficult to answer all the words by myself though because my teammate was Dilara and she already moved :(

It still went pretty smoothly so I can't complain too much.

Right after that, Miss made us do a little activity where we pair up words to make collocations. I had some difficulty with this one especially because I wasn't all that familiar with the different words and phrases combined. (Like- Junk bottom? What?). And especially since I had to painstakingly write down all of the definitions too... *sigh*

Nonetheless, I managed to finish up that assignment so it's not that bad anyway.

What do I want to improve? My ability to keep myself awake perhaps. And my intuition so that I can get better scores when making collocations haha

Discussing with my classmates was an option but that is also a gamble in and of itself.

That's it for now. Thank you for reading!

Blog 1.1 - Adi's inferno (jkjk)

HI HI HIIII AND WELCOME TO A NEW ACADEMIC YEARRR!!!

Oh god.

Here we go again.

There are many things to love about finally going back to school. I was getting bored and lonely at home  with my 10 cats and zero hobbies. (It's really odd to say that studying is my hobby because it makes me look like a worthless nerd with no friends and no life but the reality is I genuinely don't do anything but study.)

Not that I didn't enjoy the summer break though. I mean, I enjoy sleeping till noon, staying up late, and binging several Netflix shows but it really does get boring after a while. (Remind me to get proper hobbies for the next break.) I believe that I should be given time to rest my brain but when my brain power is not used once in a while, it starts melting and the brain goop will start leaking out of my ears. I'll be nothing but a zombie with a beating heart. Or maybe a vegetable.

Vacation was fun though. I went travelling with my dad but I did still spend most of it at home. It was pretty sad.

Anyways, new academic year, new academic me? Wrong!! New academic year, same old academic Adi. Let me tell you, being a Grade 11 does NOT change anything about me. Being a junior is really not that different than being a sophomore. Of course, we have strands now which means less subjects overall but it's still a hassle (6 periods of chemistry a week?!). And now we have our classroom on the second floor (Thank the Gods!!!!).

Only difference I can point out about me personally is how I'm waking up early and getting ready properly like doing my hair and makeup so I don't look dead when I come to school. I've started eating breakfast too and I like to think that I'm a lot healthier physical-wise compared to last year. I've gotten into the habit of being a little more independent now. It feels great!

Enough about me. How is AEP? What did we do on our first class?

We did mini mes! I love drawing so I had quite some fun to draw a mini version of myself. I had trouble deciding on a design first because i have not drawn myself in 84 years (joke lang). But I eventually started panicking when Miss gave us like 5 minutes to draw. I'm a detail oriented person so I panicked quite a bit. "I NEED TO DRAW HAIR FIRST" as I yelled to Miss when she took our papers. Apparently they will be used for a new board point system she calls the "freedom points".

I forgot to mention that we played a new wordle game before that. "Diffle" it says. It was alright. Me and the class had fun but we struggled at it for a little at the start.

What else did we do? Oh right. We started on doing vocabulary. We read through a few sentences and we decided on the words most fitting to fill in the blanks. After that, we researched the meanings and sentences that have contexts to describe the meaning of the word before putting all that information down in Miro. It was harder than it was supposed to be but Dilara was there to help me.

Alright, That's all for this week! Thank you for reading!

Nurin’s AEP Adventure #1

⋆·˚ ༘ *

Time is passing like a speed jet. I’m a senior now and that is incredibly hard to get over in my head. There’s something undeniably strange about growing up, and I’m going through every minute of it. AEP is the same, classes are comforting and chill. I’m soaking all the general knowledge I can get in AEP class and I’m going to put in extra efforts this year as it’s my last. Expectations this year will not be up the roof but at least to the point where I can reach. I hope AEP will continue to flourish my skills in multiple things and I sure will put those to use in college!!

Blog 1.1 - “New chapter?” - Huda G11

Back in AEP

We’re back! After a few months of our summer holiday, we’re finally back in school. We faced a few days off due to the typhoon but nonetheless, managed to have our first day of AEP last Wednesday. I must say, this is the first time we’ve had most of the chairs in the class occupied haha! It really was something to get used to but I guess this means our classes may or may not become more and more livelier hehehe…We started off with,  as usual, a starter game. Although I was expecting to play one of the games we played last year, Miss Disa had surprised us with the fact that she has discovered more “-dle” game. It was exciting to introduce to our new joiners of AEP our on-going tradition/routine for each lesson and I hope they get to see the fun of this class. After that, we were introduced to a new system where we had to draw “Mini-me’s” to stick on the bulletin board outside the class. This would help us keep track of our assignment and maybe any projects. I think it’s a brilliant idea to see our progress and to not procrastinate eheheh…

Before we started school, AEP students had to take a small quiz based on what they would be learning this year and our knowledge on vocabulary. I got a sense that we might be slightly more busier this year just from looking at our curriculum for this year but I appreciate how organised and well planned out the terms were. Looking forward to it! In terms of vocabulary, I’m glad we get to touch more on that topic this year as it has been something that I regularly struggle on in my writing.

A new start!

Finally entering senior high! Honestly, it’s a lot of pressure especially since we’re getting closer to applying for universities and thinking about what we want to do or be int he future. It’s something I didn’t really think much about in grades 9 and 10 so when I was told that I had to already choose a strand before grade 11, it hit me like a truck. As of now, i’m still not quite confident whether I have made the right choice as I tend to overthink about a lot of things, especially in my future.

I used to take IB so when I entered this school and heard that it was organised into strands, it kind of put me to a block as I was confused as to what subjects I desired to take since I didn’t really have that many options but I guess there’s an opportunity cost to everything we do and choose.

This year, I wish to improve more of my lifestyle in terms of health and my mental state. I plan in doing that by working on my time management, sleep schedule and day-to-day routine in hopes that it will help me improve my academic grades and overall lifestyle.

A Fresh Beginning

8th August 2023

A brand new start for a brand new grade 11 student! My second year in AEP after a very long (and well-deserved) summer break. I'm already looking forward to the Wordle brain teasers in the morning! Albeit we only have one session a week which is really unfortunate. After Miss had briefed us on the general basis of what our lessons will hold, I learned that this year is going to be a lot more rigorous and comprehensive in work. I assumed this was because our time in AEP per week was cut short. Despite that, I still can't wait to resume the more in-depth English lessons -- especially since we'll learn more about advanced vocabulary in the following semesters!

Additionally, since my other classmates don't have ESL anymore, our numbers in AEP have practically doubled this year! It's a lot more crowded (and noisy), and most of the seats are taken now. But even with all the new people in the class, I'm still looking forward to the lessons as they might bring new opportunities to work in groups (compared to last year -- which was mostly individual work).

Other than that, there isn't much else to say (otherwise I'd be repeating what most AEP students already know hehe). More students, more work, more puzzles, more vocabulary, and above all, more fun! I'm nevertheless excited to begin my second year in AEP. Can't wait to see what our future lessons hold!

PS: Enjoy this little guy while you're here. :]

Fahad's amazing blog#1

Thank you in advance for reading this. Let's talk about Aep. So far we've only had 1 class in which we did a lot of stuff. Firstly, we now have more students than ever, making our classroom more crowded and fun. On the first day of aep classes, we didn't have a chance to introduce ourselves because last week of that Wednesday, our classes got cancelled thanks to the typhoon, However, that wasn't a big deal since we have only 1 new student in our class. Going back to the first day of school, we played a game called diffle and then after we finished, we did something new I haven't done in aep before....we drew ourselves, isn't that interesting?, it is but I'm not good drawer so my drawings end up looking like a blind kid drew it, however, mine didn't turn out that bad, I mean, at least for me. Compared to my other classmates, mine was pretty bad but at least it didn't look like a drawing made by a blind kid. After we had finished drawing ourselves, miss disa made us fill in verbs in a fill In blank assignment she gave us, and then we had to find the meaning and the word's use on a website. it was pretty exhausting if you ask me but at least it helped me improve my research skills and increase my vocabulary by researching more words. I'm looking for aep this year and I hope I somewhat improve my vocabulary and, English because the grade 11 textbooks are filled w words I've never heard in my life before. Anyways, thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day ahead of you!!!!!

Diyar Wisam, Grade 9, Blog #1 :D

So my experience  at AEP was good actually I'm not gonna lie at you and it was good and having some fun with miss.Disa, and I am the only student in grade 9 who's in AEP. It's sad and lonely but I don't care because miss is with me and we are having fun. Anyways, and it's been 13 days since school started, and I get a lots of funny jokes with miss and I also took AEP in 2021. So when every class starts about AEP I have to get a warm up, and my warm up is to get to play some Wordle only once or twice. And I have to take the units that miss gave me, and you might wonder what "units" am I talking about, well units are the unit pages that I'm taking to read, for an example: In English we take reading parts and then answer questions, so it's similar to English.

And these are the things that I'm gonna take for this semester1:

-Blog #1 is done

-Vocabulary quiz

Yeah and that's it.

Thank You for visiting my Blog #1, and I hope your gonna Visite every Blog that I'm gonna publish.

Aep - restrospective blog but its about the entire school year - Sayum

It's the end of the school year already! That went by pretty fast. It still feels a bit like the first term just ended a few fays ago. But I mean I'm not complaining. Summer break is just 2 weeks away! This will be the last blog for grade 9 and I'll be going over everything about this school year that stood out to me. So let's get started!

This was my first year in face to face classes in FIS and I definitly prefer this over the online classes that we had last year. It felt more interactive and fun. Scrabble was also a lot more enjoyable face to face rather than online through lexolous. But then again, I don't have the greatest history with scrabble

The warm up games are some of the most fun parts of aep. And also sometimes some of the worst. (Looking at you hurdle.) We played a variety of different games throughout the year. My favourites are probably contexto, griddle, the easy hurdle, and quordle. Wordle feels too bland after playing all these different variants. I wouldn't really change anything about the warm up games if I could. I enjoy them. ( i didnt finsih)

TILL ANOTHER SEMESTER👋(FINAL BLOG)-Naboni

Hello! We are back with another AEP blog! THE FINAL BLOG!  WE ARE ALREADY IN THE 3RD SEMESTER??? How fast the time even pass???? I just realized it's been almost 10 months since I have been in this beautiful community, FIS✨. 10 months filled with wondrous experiences and moments to add up into the album of memory. Being in FIS and meeting with so many amazing people here has changed my life completely. I can’t believe is going to be one whole semester soon, since I have come to know that many people and become close with most of them. With the school year, the AEP class will soon also come to an end. It’s bittersweet to think of an end. Well if I make a list of ‘ALL THE AMAZING THINGS THAT HAPPENED TO ME THIS SCHOOL YEAR’, joining AEP class would definitely be on that list.

Even by not being one of the major subjects, AEP class has taught me the most out of all the subjects. As English is not my first language, I have always been insecure about my English grammar. No matter how much I tried to learn the structure of a tense or all sorts of verb names, I ended up forgetting them after 1-2 weeks. At some point, I just gave up learning grammar. Now when I joined AEP, I have come to learn with Miss Disa’s influence, that grammar is not the most important thing to be proficient in English. We can start with small things; for instance just by reading children’s articles or playing different word games or blogging! Yet we haven’t totally discarded grammar, we still had various grammar lessons on topics that are needed in day-to-day life, like the use of before, by, until, and conditionals, etc. I really love how Miss Disa conducts all of the classes with her entertaining videos which makes the lessons crystal clear.

At the beginning of the second term, we did a 14- days challenge which I think is one of the best things I have done for myself. On the period of 14 days, we had to make a game plan for the day and do certain easy tasks throughout the day. Those tasks are based on self-improvement and that basically teaches you to set agenda and fulfill it. In the beginning, I thought it would be so hard to get through the challenge. But soon I found out, it is not that difficult to do a series of easy tasks by the end of a day. It was also satisfying and tempting as you put a tick mark beside your do-to list when you finish a task. Even though it was relieving after 14 days to complete the challenge, I created some habits of keeping several of them till now. For example, I have come to sort of adjust my sleep schedule, I try to stay hydrated throughout the day and sometimes find myself doing the exercise snacks. My favorite part about the challenge was doing one kind act a day. It felt awesome to be in need of someone or to make a person happy when I kept track of it. I think the 14-day challenge is a great way for anyone to use for building a habit in the long run of life.

I mostly love AEP because of its less workload. We never have any exams or quizzes like all the other subjects, we just do some simple seatwork after we finish any grammar lessons. I remember once we were given a presentation to make because Leo managed to confuse Miss DIsa with the sentence ‘Help me with my homework.’ The purpose was to research whether ‘help’ in the sentence is causative or not. Well thanks to Leo, cause the collaborative project was much enjoyable to do. Other than that, on oral days we read some amusing and fun articles from DOGONews ( these are the children’s articles I mentioned about before) and we go one by one reading two lines of the articles and stating one fact from the article after we finish reading it. I have come across many interesting articles while doing oral like octopuses throwing debris at each other, a one-eyed cat becoming Cadbury’s Easter bunny, a 10-pound goldfish, etc. Another of the signature thing for AEP class is playing Scrabble on rainy days. It has always been Boys vs Girls. Sorry to the boys we always end up defeating them still I appreciate their hard work. We start every class with a warm-up word game, which turns the calm class tumultuous as a lot of brainstorming is required.

Well, I guess that covers up all the things I have got to experience during the semester. AEP class has helped me a lot in improving my English and learning new vocabulary and has bought me closer to my classmates. Sometimes I wish I had joined AEP class before, but then I would not be able to get the experience of the rowdy ESL class. I think I am the lucky one who got to experience both of the subjects. Still grateful to Miss Sarah who thought me capable of AEP class and suggested me to join it. All the talented people, MIss DIsa’s cheerful jokes, 10 minutes of hallway walks, warm-up games, easy Mondays, scrabble on rainy days, Teddy and Alice are all the things that define our AEP class.

This is the end of the blog I guess. But not the end of AEP. Definitely, coming back next semester, with a new chapter. So adios? No. See you later!👋

14 Day Challenge Debrief- Naboni

Keeping track of goals has always been really helpful to me. At the beginning of the third semester, Miss Disa provided us with a 14-day challenge, which was a similar pursuit I do regularly. The challenge involved a game plan for the day, a kind act, a task to complete by the end of the health, and a snippet of healthiness. The plan had to be made consistently for 14 days in the morning at 7 pm, and right after 12 hours at 7 in the evening, we had to give feedback on how the day went. Possessing the misdemeanor of procrastination, for a person like me, the activity is an aid to build up good habits and prepare you for the long run in life.

Even though I prepare a to-do list of tasks almost every day, laziness strikes me and I fail to fulfill all the tasks by the end of the day. But knowing that my grades will depend upon the way I perform in the challenge and I am not doing it alone, as the whole AEP class is doing it, gave me a boost of motivation and an adamant mindset to finish the task at the end. I would say, the most healthy habit that I made in the span of 14 days is, the habit of drinking water which I bet I haven't done enough throughout my lifetime. From the very first day, I decided to drink at least 7 cups of water a day. After some days I figured out, it happened automatically without me keeping track of it. It has had a huge effect on me as for now, I am still regularly drinking enough water as required. Staying hydrated, not only helps me to stay active but also it has a visible effect on my skin. One thing I wish I could do was to replace coffee with water, but I find it difficult yet to function properly without drinking at least one cup of coffee a day. Well, maybe some other time, in some other challenge tee hee. Also, the daily calisthenics along with making a healthy habit, provided me with a solution of how to tackle laziness. Now whenever I feel unfocused I get out of my study area and try to take a walk or some light exercise for 2- 5 minutes. That helps my mind to again get on track.

Sleeping early. A huge battle in my life is to fight with insomnia( maybe this has a bit of an exaggeration😝). During the two weeks of 14 days challenge, I actually managed to sleep before 11 every single day! Yes, I was even surprised! The first 3-4 days were all about rummaging through the blanket or the pillow in my bed for some hours until I fell asleep, but then it definitely worked in my favor. Well, I guess I passed that challenge, but I haven't passed my real challenge in life. As for, after that two weeks, I got back into my old ways. I am still trying to gain a proper sleeping schedule and hopefully will be able to succeed one day.

As for the game plan, I mostly kept it on my mental health. I feel like sometimes I forget that keeping sound mental health should also be one of my priorities while I focus on my growth. So, I took advantage of this challenge and decided on a game plan that would help to keep a positive mindset throughout the day. It was hard to keep up with those some of the days but overall I would say, the game plans did show a beneficial effect on my mood all around the 14 days.

Last but not the least, my favorite of all challenges was to do at least one act of kindness a day.  As I have always been a giver, it was the easiest for me. At first, I was not sure what this would entail, but then I found out that keeping track of kindness is a great way to improve my mood and connect with others. Somedays my kind act was as simple as greeting everyone I meet warmly with a smile or texting a friend to let them know I am there for them. On other days, I helped the people around me with doing chores or helping with my studies, etc.

Overall, I believe this 14-day challenge is really helpful as it has helped me to build a lot of good habits. I would definitely try it again when I feel the need of making a new habit!

The End is Near- Chloe Lloveras- Blog T3- AEP9

The end is near. Grade nine is coming to a close and the next chapter in my life awaits. Finals are next week and this is the last blog I’ll be making as a ninth grader and junior. To say that the year flew by so fast is an understatement. It feels like just yesterday when I wrote my first blog, scared for the new struggles I’d face and excited for the fun memories to come in face-to-face classes.

Sure, it was a bit of a rocky start at first with my social awkwardness and some technological issues, but we got through it together. We did word games together, “Scrabble” together, seatwork together, projects together, and even sat in silence together. It was a familar experience that I’d long forgotten. I guess being in lockdown for two years can do that to a person.

Of course, I still miss some of the things I used to do online like waking up later for example or being done with school as soon as the clock strikes three. But those are just the little things I’ve come to miss and learned to live without.

Now, I wake up earlier, go to bed earlier, finish my homework later, and have to schedule my time better. Face-to-face school has made my life go at a faster pace. It’s taught me to account for elements in my surroundings to my daily school life such as: transportation time, traffic, family time, how I’m going to finish my homework with so many deadlines and still have time to relax. Face-to-face school has had many contributing factors helping me get my life together.

And AEP has been one of those factors. It’s been throwing task after task at me: grammar lessons, seatworks, projects, games, new vocabulary, news articles! It’s been telling me to work harder, to not give up, to be better!
AEP has managed to change me in ways that I didn’t think were possible. For instance, it made me give up pink lemonade for water, a habit of mine I’ve been implementing since second grade! To think that I’m still on my streak of drinking water even today blows my mind.

AEP has also taught me the power of simplicity like when we were assigned to write a letter to someone we were thankful for. Although this project was quicker and less labor intensive than most that we had, my aunt was over the moon when she received it! Making her happy made me happy. And that just goes to show that thanking a person doesn’t have to be extravagant or so elaborate that you plan months in advance, but even just writing it in a simple letter because “Why not?” can hold just as much power.

Another thing AEP has also taught me is to listen. Listen to others’ opinions and stories. To work as a team and be effective at the same time. That you endure praises and punishments together. Being online made it hard for me to do this with the endless distractions I’d find at home. But being there actually face-to-face has forced me to come out of my shell and listen intently.

However, there are some things in my life that still have not changed liked my love for “DOGONews” articles, “Scrabble” and fun word games! I always look forward to doing those every morning. The only thing I’d have to critique about them is that we don’t seem to do enough of it, especially “Scrabble!” I love playing it but we only actually get the opportunity to do it on rainy days. I’d love also to play it every so often even when it’s sunny outside because it’s such a fun experience to have that brings the class together.

Apart from that though, grammar lessons and seatworks have been sitting well with me. I have no complains about those.

Overall, this year’s AEP classes have really changed my outlook on life this year. Slowly, but surely, I’ve grown to look at things more positively and live healthier. AEP has also taught me the value to appreciate the small things in life and that even by making the smallest effort, it can bring you one step closer to success. And with that, chapter ten of my life begins.

LEO FINAL BLOG

Hello Blogger and good morning to this wonderfully jocular day! Today is the assignment of our final blog! Hooray! Today, after a beautifully swift round of Contexto (this is a lie), we were told to begin doing our final blog, also known as the blog of the year, also known as try not to forget anything you did blog, also known as try not to remember that one embarrassing thing in your head you did two months ago blog!

Moving on from that humorous introduction (I hope it was), and now that I probably caught your attention, let's move onto the most serious of all serious questions: have we learnt something? Now, multiple choice question, is the answer A? We didn't. B? Had we? Or is the answer C? We did ... but proceeded to forget. If you answered C, that is wrong! The answer is D, that we did! Yay! Fireworks! Fireworks! Celebrations!

So, going over everything that's happened so far, we've done plethora of activities this year from beginning to start, but before that, I want to share a little bit about the genesis of my coming! I was a little boy in the middle of nowhere ... in China, and then suddenly I was like, "I don't want to live in this wretched, lonely, barren place anymore!" (I wasn't, I was very much wanting to, I just want to make it more interesting.) and then I was enrolled into Fountain International School and brought to another wretched place, just make it 10 times hotter (I'm thankful, honestly, because there's no cold season, but still!). Then, as far as I can remember, I was nervous, scared, fearing for my life, but then this divine angel of AEP comes forth as I lay all my burdens to rest!

During the first term, if I can actually remember it well, I began still living in the edge of China, begging my parents that I can go face to face. It was an awful beginning for me, having to constantly go online and pitifully bawl my eyes out at the sight of not being able to go and meet my classmates. It was a pretty grouse-y time, a time full of whiplashes of the word "face-to-face" shredding the back of my brain and slowly moving forward and forward until the brain is completely shredded, flying in the wind. Maybe I never had one in the first place, but sans the weird crying and yelling, I'm glad that I got the chance to go online. Having to do AEP online, it was just listening to the lessons seated upon my bed, listening to everything and everyone do things without me, as I sit in solitude wondering if I was forgotten in the classroom, just staring at the screen until someone calls out my name. (Apparently Chloe had just told me I was). One thing I missed while I was still online was the rain during scrabble days, since the terms after that was all barren of humidity and rainfall, which makes me think that whoever the god of weather is hates me. It would be great to hear the pitter patter of the little raindrops and smell the petrichor while playing scrabble ... and also not be seated with a partner who probably didn't like doing the job either (sorry Sayum!). As for the main lessons, the tenses were pretty simple to learn. I can still recall most of what I had learnt because it got embedded in my head after doing a few assignments, such as present continuous (I'm going to do ...) or future perfect (I will have to do ...). So, that's a good thing. I think the project was pretty good as well, as being assigned the director of the project had allowed me to connect with my classmates.

During the second term, I spent half of it in utter boredom, watching empty vestigial atoms of air float around my empty room since most of my personal functions are gone, moved to a new country, while I haven't been yet shipped to the pearly gates of the Philippines. I just sat there, staring at a tiny, yet blaring screen that hurt my eyes every 20 seconds of just staring ... menacingly. Then, ever-so magically, I just teleport! The day after, I'm seated in class, doing assignments along with the rest of the class! For the first half of doing absolutely nothing in my room without anything but the chipping blue-painted walls and laying on a dreary plain-white mattress that sat on a wooden frame, we did passives (The work was being finished, the place was being cleaned, etc.). Passives were lessons I had had in the past so I was well acquainted with it, but however, I did learn a bit more than just plain old passive, which included different tenses in the active with replacements of passives, and those were a tad bit more challenging, but I liked it nonetheless. I just wished I hadn't been behind the screen all the time like a prisoner in a jail cell. The second half of me actually being there were for causatives (I had him run, He helped me finish, etc.). Those were okay, though I think I had learnt about confusing the teacher with grammar (Sorry Ms. Disa!). But, all jokes aside, I had learnt some new grammatical techniques which I had definitely learned to use in real life day-to-day languages. As for the project, a poem! Yay! I did say I was experienced in it, but never said I was an expert...! (I say I am, but we move on.)

During the third term, which is currently ending, it was packed with some of the better lessons and activities that we have done. Most prominently, we did the 14-day challenge! Hooray! Woo! Celebrations! Applause! But what was the 14-day challenge? Well, the 14-day challenge was just a challenge for 14 days. It was an extraordinary turning point, a change in everyone's lives, that one speck of happiness earned to fulfill your lives! As challenging as it sounds, it was challenging. The main goal given was to break out old, bad habits to make anew. It was a whole list of questions we had to answer for a fortnight, which involved some things such as an act of pure kindness, a change in a deathly diet, or, most importantly, had you finished what you tasked yourself to do in the morning? It was a fun time to count and recall what you've done during the day, and I enjoyed it. Maybe having it while the camping trip happened isn't so bad in retrospect, since I got to answer it in my head before I slept. But anyway, as for the lessons, there were many. For example, we had done conditionals (if, when, whenever ...) and a lesson for when your rent is due (before, by, until ...) and then our project, which is about finding that one tiny little mishap in everyone's daily speech and using it to create a detailed description like those children who correct anyone who mistaken "your" and "you're" every-so often on the internet. I did a poem, since I did say I was experienced! But sadly, I did go a little bit overboard with the editing and lost the premise of the project.

Recalling about some of the activities we did, which weren't lesson-specific but it was part of AEP, there was oral activities in which we go on DOGO News and read out a short, yet super shocking, headline that Ms. Disa personally chooses out for us! In the end, it's usually a short trivia like jeopardy where the one who gets the answer right will get a trillion dollars! Yes, you heard that! Right on the spot. So during the final parts of the oral lesson, we just have a short discussion of facts where each of us brings out an non-aforementioned fact, and if they don't that means they didn't listen and that means we get to read another news article, woo! But we usually just read until our heart's content. Another thing we had often was the games. My personal favorite is word bomb because I naturally type fast, so I just snatch wins every game! It's fun to play because of the adrenaline rush you get as the bomb comes towards you then threatens you by merely just ticking and ticking and ticking and ticking and BOOM! you're gone. I use that adrenaline to pour my heart out into supercalifragilisticexpialidocious but it always goes into vain because only now I realize word bomb has a letter limit which doesn't make lots of sense. But anyway, the other thing we did was Scrabble, and honestly, not my favorite. Despite the fact that I'm a conqueror in word bomb, I lose in scrabble every time. I'm starting to think it may not be me and the game just hates giving me letters that work together or it's my teammates' faults because I'm always grouped with them and losing, then when I play solo I'm second overall (sorry Sayum and Janek, but it's true!). Moving on, we did morning word exercises everyday; my personal favorite? Hurdle! The others are fairly easy to do, except Contexto because that game is rigged, and bore me since we usually finish them quickly. Hurdle is the only one I actually feel like challenges me as we have to go and make notes and think and all that stuff while some of us are probably screaming out a word in spite of the game.

To conclude, maybe if I had joined earlier during the pandemic, I think I would've been killed during the middle of it, since I couldn't move around for such a long time. I mean, having to wake up, go to sleep, wake up, sleep again, then brush my teeth for lunch and sleep again, then wake up, then sleep for another 3 or 4 hours, then shower, then sleep, then sleep ... and sleep. Though, the thought of it sounds very, very pleasing, the reality of it only gets spoiled when you account for the duration of it's entirety. For 6 months, there I was, sleeping and waking and sleeping and waking and magically going outside into the world, but apparently, it's a dream, and then I wake and sleep and wake and sleep and ... it just becomes a completely endless and quotidian cycle of the waking and sleeping and ... yeah. It only gets attenuated as you realize time is fleeting, and soon enough you'll be present in modern day society, with all the traffic, people, papers, lots and lots of papers, hand-worked projects, and a lot more which you had reminisced in the dissuasion of the virtual life. My advice for next year, don't go online! Some better advice, meh ... there's not much to say other than the year was pretty great, and I had enjoyed throughout. I am completely content with the flow of the three terms, and I think the extra additions such as pre-class activities and oral make school life surmountable. Though, I definitely will miss being the cynosure of the classroom when I can sit still, look pretty on Ms. Disa's phone.
