Blog 3.2 14 day challenge

In retrospect, the 14-day challenge was messy. It started off relatively well for me as I got the first 2 days almost perfectly on time, but when I missed my first day of the challenge I felt a wave of defeat, which stuck with me. On the off day that I remembered, it felt good knowing that I'd done everything right so far in the day.

On Tuesday, February 14, Ms Disa announced that we would start the challenge the next day. It went well for precisely 2 days before I missed my first morning and after that, it just went south. Even though I did very poorly, still I think that I still learnt something.

When I get up in the morning, I usually have my breakfast and scroll through memes but with the introduction of the 14-day challenge I started writing down what I'd do for the day. Even though what I wrote was very little, which it was designed to be, it meant that I was already thinking about the day ahead rather than letting it catch me off. Sometimes it would remind me that I had to bring specific things to school.

Reflecting on how I did according to what I set out to accomplish in a day proved to be helpful. Most of the time when a day is over I only look to the following one, but now I had to recall what I did which makes the day feel full rather than all of it blending into one.

In conclusion, the 14-day challenge may have been a messy experience, but it still provided some valuable lessons. Despite struggling to keep up with the challenge, I learned the importance of planning out the day in advance and reflecting on what I did at the end of the day. These new habits helped to make the day feel full. While this challenge was not completely successful, it's important to take away the positive lessons it thought me.

Blog 3.1

Yesterday was the first AEP lesson of term 3. In that lesson, we were introduced to "Ms Disa's 14 DAY productivity challenge" which aims to get us into better habits in school and at home. In that lesson, we made a pre-challenge prep which basically is a list of what we promise to do.

Every morning for 14 days we will write a game plan for the day, this can be something that we will accomplish by the end of that day. At the end of that day, we will give ourselves a score out of 10. 10 of course meaning that we accomplished our gameplan fully while a 1 or a 0 would mean we did not get it done.

Another thing we had to do for the productivity challenge was assign times for exercise snacks. Exercise snacks are little exercises that can be as little as getting up and touching your toes. We assigned 3 times in the day for exercise snacks but are not limited to only 3 times a day. All this is for us to get used to having a healthy lifestyle but also to sticking to a routine. We made a promise to ourselves and now we have to stick to it, I think this is something we need to learn more about because I myself struggle with it.

Ms Disa explained that there is a line where good things become unhealthy, it's called toxic positivity. She explained that in many Asian cultures working yourself to death is viewed as a good thing. Overworking one's self can physically change a person because their mental health and physical health are linked together. This really is something that they don't teach in school and, in fact, I think the opposite is true. We're given tasks and as long as we finish them there isn't an issue. This makes students only care about the end product rather than caring for the actual process itself which is where the learning happens.

Look at last the last 2 weeks for example, we had an English play due, a physics project due, science congress panel defence due, and then finals. In the span of 2 weeks, we had months of work due and also present. Admittedly, we were behind on some tasks like our panel defence. Our paper which we had to present was only completed and printed out a few days prior to the presentation. They only worry about the final product rather than the process.

Ms Disa on the other hand will be checking on us every day. We'll lose points every day if we don't do what we set out to do and gain points if we do it well.

Blog 2.3 | "farting may be natural, but so is being eaten by a hippopotamus" -me

So far in this year of AEP, we've done quite a bit. In my opinion, I think that the most interesting part was actually planning out how we're gonna do future AEP classes. As always, every morning we do a little word game, either wordle, quordle, or something that ends in "dle".

Again the part that I found most interesting and also enjoyed the most was planning out how we're going to spend the next AEP classes. We started that period with a word game of course, and then we started planning. We first looked if we would lose any lessons because of holidays, and after that, we started assigning and deciding what we would do in each of the remaining classes. Once we were done with that we had a beautiful board with exactly what we would, remembering to leave the last week empty for finals of course, and we were ready. Then the schedule changed so the plan was all off, but a simple fix was done to just shift the dates of some stuff around.

The word games are pretty good now, I didn't really understand the hype around it, but now I see. It's so much fun looking at a jumble of coloured words and guessing what word it is, the best part is probably when you have some of the word in green and then you start telling the boardmaster which letters go where and the word becomes greener and greener until it's correct. Out of all the word games that we've done I think my favourite is waffle wordle because it's the most challenging, it also has the most words which gives me a better chance at finding a word that I know. For example, wordle, the original NYT one, only has one word to guess while waffle wordle has eight.

To conclude, Ms Disa tries to accommodate our schedules like science projects and finals while also maximising our time in AEP. although, we have to do an AEP project so I'm hoping it will be origami.

Sorry title machine broke

In AEP we're doing essays based on maps. There will be no explanation on the maps, and we're supposed to make sense of it and turn it into an essay. There are often just two maps and usually only have the before and after something happened. The uniqueness of essays based on maps is that the language used is slightly different to a regular essay and can be done quickly most of the time. In the mornings we usually spend 10 - 15 minutes doing word games like online scrabble or some variation of scrabble.

term 2 review of term 1

Term 1 was my first term in Fountain and my first time in AEP. I didn't know what we would do other than something English-related, but how hard could that be? My confidence, however, was unfounded as I quickly found out I had never actually written essays on graphs; therefore, my vocabulary was poor to non. Not to mention the time limit often placed on us during these assignments.

In AEP we would also play word games, and really it is a lot of learning. For one I learnt that I am terrible at them and I know only a handful of words that have letter after "v". To this day I still do not have a clue as to what AEP is but with perseverance I may, one day, finally find out. That day is not today
